With this idea at the forefront of her mind, Combs’ music speaks to the heart.  Her first album, New, blends the worlds of Bluegrass Gospel and Inspirational Country, creating a sound unique to the Eastern Kentucky native.

“New”, released in March of 2012, allows fans a glimpse inside Combs’ life:  past, present, and future, emotional and spiritual.   Boasting songs such as the heart wrenching “Let Me Know You’re Here” and the comforting “The Lord is Beside Me”, this album speaks to the everyday struggles of common people.  “New Life” tells the stories of struggle Combs heard while working as a camp counselor.   “Just Another Mountain” is the statement of hope resulting from the cancer diagnoses of her cousin.  Also included on the album is a traditional Bluegrass version of the hymn “Sweet By and By” and a paired down rendition of the hymn “Be Thou My Vision”.  The album ends with the artists futuristic outlook set to a Bluegrass sound:  “I’m Following Jesus”.

Combs’ musical career began at a young age, performing with her family’s band Family Tradition.  Together with her father, brother, and cousin, Family Tradition performed at many local festivals, charity events, churches, and sporting events.  After graduating high school, Combs traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to attend Belmont University as a Commercial Voice Major.  While there, she had the privilege of performing with the Belmont Bluegrass Ensemble on campus and around Nashville.  Combs now has her Bachelors and Master of Music degrees in Commercial Voice Performance from Belmont University.

When listening to Combs’ voice it is easy to hear her influences.  The Country sounds of Martina McBride and Lee Ann Womack mix tastefully with the Bluegrass influence of Rhonda Vincent.  Add the Gospel influences of the Isaacs and Christy Nockels and the result is one of a kind.

Over time, Combs' songwriting has expanded to include influences from many different styles, but the purpose of her music is very focused.  “I want people to understand life is full of happy and sad moments, but none of us have to go through them alone,” explains Combs.  “The hope that I have in Jesus drives me to share my experiences in my songs.”  Her unique sound and young artistry combines with the newness she has in Jesus to appropriately fit the title of her first album “New”.
